Located at the innermost region of spectrometer in particle physics experiments, vertex detectors play a critical role in the accurate reconstruction of the charged particle track and primary/secondary vertices. Future particle physics experiments for the precise measurements require a low-mass vertex detector with high spatial resolution. This drives the need for pixel technologies featuring fine pitch, low power consumption and fast readout. CMOS pixel sensors have significant advantages in material budget and spatial resolution, but still having big challenges on readout speed and power consumption. This project will study CMOS pixel sensors adapted to the vertex detector of future electron-positron colliders, and the main topics include: researching the relation of spatial resolution with pixel pitch and charge encoding precision (ADC resolution), aiming at design optimization; designing the charge collection element and front-end analog readout in pixels; exploring the readout architecture of a full scale chip (including pixel array and peripheral electronics). The research of this project is expected to accumulate the critical techniques for the future design of high spatial resolution, low power consumption and high speed CMOS sensor prototypes.
顶点探测器位于粒子物理实验谱仪的最内区域,对于带电粒子径迹以及初、次级碰撞顶点的精确重建起决定性作用。未来粒子物理实验为实现精确物理测量,需要高空间分辨率、低物质量的顶点探测器,急需小像素尺寸、低功耗、快速读出的像素探测器技术。CMOS像素探测器在物质量、空间分辨率等方面具有显著优势,但是在降低功耗、提高读出速度方面仍然面临巨大挑战。本项目面向未来国内外正负电子对撞机顶点探测器,提出开展CMOS像素探测器技术的研究,主要内容包括研究空间分辨率与像素尺寸、电荷编码精度(ADC位数)的关系 ,以优化设计;设计像素内电荷收集器件和前端模拟读出电路;探索探测器芯片(包括像素阵列和外围电路)整体读出架构,为实现高空间分辨率、低功耗、高读出速度的CMOS探测器原型芯片积累关键技术。
未来国内外正负电子对撞机为实现精确物理测量,需要高空间分辨率、低物质量的顶点探测器,急需小像素尺寸、低功耗、快速读出的像素探测器技术。CMOS像素探测器在物质量、空间分辨率等方面具有显著优势,但是在降低功耗、提高读出速度方面仍然面临巨大挑战。本项目针对下一代正负电子对撞机的顶点探测器,研究了CMOS像素探测器芯片设计的几个关键问题:空间分辨率与多个芯片设计参数的关系;像素内电荷收集器件(sensor)和模拟前端电路的设计技术;低功耗、高速读出芯片整体读出结构。通过本项目的研究,掌握了CMOS像素探测器的传感器及低功耗前端电路的设计方法,实现了功耗仅为8 mW/cm2的前端电路,并提出了基于二进制像素的数据驱动式读出结构。本项目的研究为实现高空间分辨率、低功耗、高读出速度的CMOS探测器大规模原型芯片的设计提供了有益参考。
