By taking advantages of the multi-effect of ultrasound, i.e., dispersion, crushing, activation and initiation, ultrasound was introduced to prepare polymer/inorganic nanocompsites to solve the dipsersion problem of nanopartilces in polymer matrix. Ultrasonic irradiation in-situ emulsion polymerization was established and poly(n-butyl acrylate)(PBA)/nanosilica composites, poly(n-butyl methacrylate)(PBMA)/nano Al2O3, PSt/nano Fe3O4, as well as P(MMA-BA)/carbon nanotubes composite emulsion were prepared. Ultrasonic irradiation in-situ bulk polymerization was established. PMMA/TiO2, PMMA/SiO2 and PMMA/CNTs composite sheets were prepared. Ultrasonic irradiation was introduced to microemulsion polymerization and the conductive polyaniline nanoparticles, PMMA latex nanoparticles and PSt latex nanoparticles were prepared. The mechanism and influence factors to form polymer/inorganic nanocomposite through ultrasonic irradiation were investigated. Ultrasonic irradiation provide us a novel, clear and effecient method to prepare polymer/inorganic nanoparticles composite. This study made a contribution to polymer mechanochemistry, sonochemistry, and nanocomposites.
