Rice is one of the most important crops of the world and is being studied as a model plant for molecular genetic analysis. The yield and quality of rice,that is the hard-core of economic value, is controlled directly by the development of flora organs. Molecular cloning of genes that regulate floral organ development has been made an explosion of information about genetic and molecular mechanisms of flower development in higher plants. Mutant is the good material for cloning gene and understanding the developmental control mechanisms in the agronomically important flower of rice. In this project, a twin-ovary mutant, which is may relative to the activity of transposable element and is controlled by a single recessive gene, was studied through screening different DNA fragments between the wild-type and the mutant. The gene has been located on the rice molecular map, which is useful for the positional cloning of the gene.
