The polarization scattering characteristics of several typical clutter are investigated theoriotically.A particular attention is focused on the polarization scattering radar cross section (RCS) of some typically distributed chaff clouds in the outer space.The polarization scattering matrix and RCS formulae of the chaff clouds are derived according to the spatial distribution parameters.These formulae reflect the fluctuation of chaff cloud's RCS due to the variation of cloud's spatial distribution.Filtering in polarization domain has been investigated with respect to the unknown and time-varying clutter or interference environment.An adaptive polarization recursive-filtering algorithm is proposed.The theoretically.performance of those adaptive filters based on orthogonal polarization measurement is evaluted in statistics.sense.Analytical formulae of the polarization filters' performance are derived and a series of performance curves are plotted.The problem of target detection in the cluttered circumstance with wide-band high-resolution radar is.studied. Five detection methods are proposed for different applications.Simulation experiment results show that the high resolution radar's detection performance can be improved significantly by using the algorithms presented.An algorithm is proposed based on the extended distance defined in joint domain of polarization and space.The algorithm creatively relates the signal processing in polarization domain and space domain.The simulations verify that the algorithm surpasses conventional algorithms.
