During the latter half of 1990s, a newest development trend and frontier of theoretical and quantitative geography was the foundation and development of geocomputation as a scientific subject. The new ideas of theory, methodology and models being bring forth and applied have played a very important influence in the foundation and development of Geographic Information Science. This project takes a following of trail of the frontier development of Geocomputation and a starting of the research and application of Geocomputation in China as a main purpose, carries out a theoretical and positive research on urban geographical modeling of Shanghai metropolis with its special morphological evolution process since the reform and open, as well makes a trying to explore the influence and applicability of the theoretical models upon the urban policy and decision through a method of model analysis and parameters control and adjustment for the modeling. Except following a tradition concentrated upon research on urban systems and urban correlation, the project put a research focus on a metropolitan main body and its components. The main research contents consist of two parts, i.e. a theoretical research on methods and models of Geocomputation, and a positive research on application of some important models (fractal, cellular automata, geographically weighted regression etc,.) in the evolution process of Shanghai metropolis. Since the project has been carried out, after through an effective cooperation and efforts by the full members of project group, some main research work has been successfully finished, the purpose originally set up has been arrived, a lot of theoretical and applicable research achievements have been gained, in which, 8 academic papers, 3 conference reports have been published, 4 academic papers have been posted to a few journals for the checking and examining, a theoretical research achievement as a part of the book named "City and Urban Fractal Morphology" has been finished, the full of the book would been finished in the latter of the year.
