While supply chain management can be interpreted very broadly to include a variety of logistical and operational issues, at its heart is the idea of coordination between different partners of a supply chain. This project studied information sharing and ordering coordination by means of simulation and analytical approaches. Through the computer simulation and statistical analysis, we investigated the impact of two strategies, namely sharing demand information at different levels and committing the orders in advance, on the performance of a simple supply chain and the different partners in the supply chain, and identified the value of information sharing and early order commitment under different operating conditions. In the aspect of the analytical models, we built a stochastic programming model for a simple distributed distribution system given the transportation lead times are uncertain, and proposed algorithms incorporating the special properties of the optimization model. Besides, we studied models and algorithms for a variety of scheduling problems arising from the manufacturing practice, such as no-wait and/or no-idle scheduling problem, scheduling problem with limited machine availability, and vehicle routing problem. Up to now, these studies resulted in thirty-one research papers, where nine of them are published by international journals and twelve of them were published by China journals, among which six papers have been indexed in Web of Science and seven papers have been indexed in Engineering Index
