Improvement of rice plant-type is one of the key paths to increase rice quality and yield. The evolution trend of 'multi panicle---panicle weight --- single tiller' has been found by tracing the development of maize plant-type, so it is of importance for advanced identification and studying of rice single tiller germplasm resources. This study has used the latest rice single tiller mutant, investigated its physiological mechanism, completed the typical genetic analysis, mapping and cloning of gene for controlling single tiller. Using with integrating the transgenic technology, backcross and flower-culture methods, a large number of elite lines with good agronomic traits and high-yielding potential were gained.
