A series of solid state compounds of rare earth-early transition metal composite oxides have been prepared under eutectic condition. Microporous polyoxometalates-immobilized silica materials have also been synthesized through sol-gel method and post hydrothermal treatment. These two types of materials possess the characteristics of high activity, long life and easy recycle, which can be used as photocatalysts in the water purification. Nanosized polyoxometalates and three dimensional porous single crystal of oxides inside the mesoporous channels can be prepared by aminosilylation of the surface silanols of the mesoporous templates, anchoring of polyoxometalates to the grafted amine groups. These nanosized species shows high catalytic activity in the hydrogenation of propane and selective oxidation of phenol.
