On the basis of the prior works, this project has further launched a research for a significant scientific problem about the multicellular organisms in the Changzhougou Formation (1800 Ma) (or the early Changcheng Period) in Yanshan Range. The research achivements of this project mainly include not only the discovery about new types of carbonaceous megafossils and new multicellular tissues from the Changzhougou Formation, but also a lot of fragments of multicellular organisms with clear multicellular tissues by maceration from the shales of the Changzhougou, Chuanlinggou and Tuanshanzi formations respectively, the megascopic calcarous algae (Codiaceae) and some possible metazoans respectively from the cherts and sandstone of the Dahongyu Formation, as well as a huge amount of big carbonaceous megafossils with a width of several centimeters. All of these new data,including eboth outer morphological characteristics and inner cellular tissues, indicate that the multicellular organisms not only started to arise in the Changcheng System, but also developed with rather high evolutional level and variation. In addition, this project has also gotten important achivement in the research on stratigraphy of the Changcheng System and the background of celestial dynamics for the growth of stromatolits in the Wumishan Formation of Jixian System.
在已有重要发现的基础上,进一步开展燕山地区中元古代长城系常州沟组的碳质宏观化石及其细胞组织的研究,深入探索地球早期多细胞生物和有性生殖的起源和早期演化问题。如果常州沟组的多细胞生物和有性生殖问题能被基本解决,那么该成果无论对生命科学还是对地质科学都会产生非常深远的影响,因而有着十分重大的科学意义。
