Su Song''s astronomical clock tower was a landmark achievement of astronomical instrument making in ancient China. It has been praised as the first astronomical clock in the world. During the past half century, there have been several reconstructions home and abroad, such as 1:1 scaled reconstruction in Taiwan, Japan, and, very recently, Tongan, China. These reconstructions, however, were all based on the "flipping-scoop model" that had been proposed by J. Combridge 50 years ago. The model flaws very much because it does not fit the descriptions in history. Based on a reseach project supported by NSFC "Reseasrch on the scientific principles of Su Song''s Astronomical Clock Tower" (11173067/A0309), we are doing a new reconstruction which will use the "non-flipping-scoop model" which is based on our indeph study of the original text. Our 1:3 scaled reconstruction will be exhibited during the IAU GA Beijing 2012. This documentary film will acomplish the following: 1) to introduce the history of the water-powered astronomical instrument before the Song; 2) to explain the scientific principles of power, control and transmission mechanism, and to introduce its three major functions of measurement, demonstration and time-telling; 3) to recount the research process of the reconstruction project. This film will not only narrate ancient China''s great achievements in astroo0nomy and mechanics, but also demonstrate the reconstruction process, and to give publicity to the research project supported by NSFC. The film will be 30 minutes in length.
苏颂水运仪象台是中国古代天文仪器制造的高峰, 被誉为是世界上的最早的天文钟. 半个多世纪以来, 中外对苏颂水运仪象台有过很多复原研究。 然而这些复原都是基于50年前英国学者提出的翻斗方案, 与历史上的实际情况大相径庭。在国家自然科基金项目《苏颂水运仪象台的科学原理研究》(11173067/A0309)支持下, 我们正在以科学的并且符合历史原貌的不翻斗方案复原水运仪象台。 1:3的复原即将在国际天文学联合会代表大会期间展出(北京2012)。 本专题电视科普节目将: 1) 介绍中国古代水运仪象特别是宋代水运仪象的历史; 2)介绍水运仪象台的科学原理, 包括动力、控制、传动三大机构, 以及观测、演示和授时三大功能; 3)叙述科学复原水运仪象的研究过程。 本专题片一方面将宣传展示中国古代伟大的天文学和机械学成就, 另一方面也展示复原研究的过程, 宣传基金项目的研究成果。 本片30分钟.
