殖民主义与中国近代建筑史研究的新范式

Colonial history is an emerging field in the past decade in mainland China, but the research on colonial cities and architecture is still largely overlooked. However, colonialism is closely intertwined with modern Chinese architecture. It is imperative to start serious studies on colonial cities and architecture in China in modern times. As an attempt to set up a new paradigm of modern Chinese architectural reserch, this project researches the change of Western and Japanese colonial polcies since 1840 and the impact on the built environment in foreign concessions, leased territories and colonial cities. Through a comparative colonial perspective on a global scale, this project compares British, French, German and Russian colonialism in treaty port cities and leased territories, and Japanese colonialism in Taiwan and Manchuria, analyzing similarities and differences of colonial policies that left imprints on urban development. Foreign colonialism also relates to the emergence and rise of modern Chinese nationalism. This project delves into the relation between foreign colonialism and the emergence and rise of modern Chinese nationalism, so as to investigate the modernizing process of modern Chinese architecture and the social change in modern times. This project advocoates cross-disciplinary approach and adopts methods from social sciences, putting the project in the grid of the global context for study, hence a ground-breaking effort to set up a new research paradigm in the field of modern Chinese architectural history.

殖民主义史是我国学术界近十来年才逐渐开拓的一个研究领域，对殖民地城市和建筑的研究更是基本空白。然而，我国近代建筑的历史与殖民主义关系极为密切。开展对殖民主义和殖民地城市建筑的研究，是我国建筑史学界一项迫切而重要的任务。 本课题研究近代以来西方和日本的殖民主义政策之迁变及其对我国近代城市和建筑发展的影响，旨在初步建构中国近代建筑史研究的新范式。拟采用比较殖民主义的方法，分别考察外廊式建筑(早期的英法殖民主义)，哈尔滨、青岛(较晚的德俄殖民主义)及台北、长春(日本殖民主义)，在世界殖民体系的图景中比较西方和日本殖民政策在我国的起源和发展，分析不同的殖民主义政策在我国近代城市建设上的体现。通过分析我国殖民地城市建设所反映的思想、形制、技术等发展，考察近代时期中国建筑近代化的进程及社会变迁。以我国近代殖民地城市和建筑为对象，在全球维度中对殖民主义进行历时性研究，形成研究中国近代建筑史的新范式。
