This project intends to explore the family business owner's decision-making and the private firm's growth from the perspective of family ties. The main contents are described as the following items. First of all, This project takes family ties as an analysis unit, which is defferent from prior studies. Based on the theories such as social network, family embeddedness, resource-based view, entrepreneurship and institution theory, this project will systematically construct a theoretical framework about “family ties - decision making choice -firm growth” and propose a series of assumptions as well. Secondly, this project discusses the features of family ties and then develops a measurement tool for it in Chinese culture context; Simultaneously, the evolution of family ties will be examined based on survey in China. Thirdly, both quantitative and qualitative method will be applied in order to clarify the function of family ties during the set-up and exit of family business group. Fourthly, The relationship between family ties and family business owner's decision-making such as strategic entrepreneurship, non-production and social service will be discussed, and the effects of organizational context, industry and institutional background on family ties are also inspected. Fifthly, the accumulation of firm resources and nurture of organizational competence will be examined to find the laws of private firm's growth, especially the effects of family ties and institution on the the entrepreneurial dropout and exit and to be tested by using Chinese family business data. Moreover, primary data collected through survey and secondary data of listed companies will be used to test the hypotheses among family ties, decision-making choice and firm growth, based on which the key factors that influencing the private firm's growth would be identified.This project introduces famliy ties into the framework of firm growth, which can cast deep insight on the understanding of nature of family firms and provides steering suggestions for practitioners to improve competitiveness in the context of market transition and globalization.
本课题拟从家族连带角度探讨私营企业主的决策行为及企业成长路径,具体包括以下主要研究内容:以家族连带为分析单元,基于社会网络理论、家族嵌入理论、资源与能力理论、创业理论与制度理论等系统地构建一个"家族连带-决策行为选择-企业成长"的理论框架,并提出一系列相关假设;探索家族连带的特征表现、测量体系及其演变机制,并通过定性与定量研究方法分析家族连带在家族企业集团/系族形成、分裂中的作用机理;探讨家族连带对企业主的战略创业、非生产性活动与践行社会公益等决策的影响作用,并在此基础上分析组织背景、行业背景与制度环境对家族连带效应的制约或促进作用;探索企业资源积累与能力培育,尤其是创业退出与家族连带的逻辑关系,找到企业成长的规律。本项目基于调查数据、上市公司资料等对家族连带、决策行为选择与企业成长之间的假设关系进行检验,进而确定影响企业成长之关键因素,这将丰富企业成长理论的研究成果,并为实践工作提供建议
