The irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is one of most common digestive diseases,which is termed as one of functional bowel disorders.. The pathophysiology of IBS has not been unclear and IBS gene expression has not been reported so far. The gene expressions in colon mucosa were.investgated through gene microarray in diarrhea-IBS and constipation- IBS. The gene expressions were increased for IL-1β,VIP in diarrhea-IBS group, and decreased for somatostatin,leukotriene(LT) and receptor of 5-HT.in constipation- IBS group. In this study, the model of.Wistar was also established for the constipation- IBS. In this model, LTB4、、5-HT in the plasma was signifcant increased in constipation-Wistar group, and mast cell and 5-HT in mucosa nerve plexus were also increased as well. The above results indicated that pathophysiology of IBS was related to abnormal gene expression in colon mucosa and immuno-nerve cells in colon
