Benthic copepods is key group of the meiobenthos. The considerable species diversity and abundance have a profound ecological impact on the marine sediment ecosystem stability. As to the tiny body and great quantity, the diversity and distribution of the benthic copepoda are still indeterminate which has stimied the deep research for this group. It will be great signality to research the species composition and geographic distribution of benthic copepoda in the Arctic polar region. The project will study the taxonomy and diversity of benthic copepoda in the Bering Sea and Western Arctic Ocean. All speciemens will be identified to species with the traditionally taxonomy ways. Species' body length will be done under the High-resolution microscopy or electron microscopy. Drawings will be made with the aid of a drawing tube on a differential interference contrast microscope. The species composition, distribution and diversity of benthic copepoda will be discussed in the study area. The species' catalogue and illustrated guide will be compiled according to the new classification system. This project will promote the scientific research of China in the polar region. The result will also advance the understanding of the significance of biodiversity in the typical ecosystem. This project result also will provide a scientific proof for the biodiversity protection in the polar region and biological monitoring using the meiobenthic of the marine environmental.
底栖桡足类是小型底栖生物中优势类群之一,高度的物种多样性和丰度对海洋生态系统的稳定十分重要,对开展生物监测和评价生态系统的结构功能意义重大,为国际新兴的研究热点;底栖桡足类个体小、种类多,其种类多样性和分布特征尚不明确,从而阻碍了对该类群生物的进一步研究,掌握北冰洋及邻近海域有多少种底栖桡足类及地理分布特征,不仅在科学理论上,而且对全球生物多样性保护具有重要意义;本项目拟采用高分辨率显微镜或电镜观察测量、绘制形态图,结合解剖、封片微分干涉显微观察等传统形态分类学方法,对白令海及西北冰洋底栖桡足类进行种类鉴定和多样性研究,完成优势种和常见种类的鉴定和描述,明确白令海及西北冰洋海域底栖桡足类种类组成与分布,阐明其物种多样性及地理分布,推动我国极地事业发展,促进认识生物多样性在典型生态系统过程中所发挥的作用,为极区生物多样性保护及开发利用小型底栖生物进行环境监测研究提供科学依据。
