Hot dust-obscured galaxies (Hot DOGs) have been recently discovered in Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) All-Sky Survey. They are hyper-luminous at IR bands and most of them are at high redshift. The recent studies have indicated that the heavily dust-obscured AGN have been found in the center of Hot DOGs. Following the predictions by the mainstream model of galaxy formation and evolution, Hot DOGs have been suggested to locate in the transition phase between sub-millimeter galaxies and quasars at high redshift. They are good candidates for studying the co-evolution between massive galaxies and their central supermassive black holes. Based on our approved ALMA, VLT, JCMT and P200 observational proposals, this project is to study the physical properties and environments of Hot DOGs by the multi-wavelength observations.(1) We will constrain the contributions of the different dust components. We will estimate the stellar masses. And we will study the molecular gas properties according to the CO emission. (2) We will study the environments around Hot DOGs by using narrow-band, near-IR and sub-millimeter wide-field photometry. This project will examine if the model-predicted evolutionary scenario is correct by comparing the physical properties of Hot DOGs with those of sub-millimeter galaxies and quasars. According to our multi-wavelength studies, this project will provide the observational constraints on the entire evolutionary scenario of massive galaxies at high redshift.
热尘埃遮蔽星系是最近在宽场红外巡天探测卫星(WISE)全天巡天中发现的一类高红移极亮红外星系。研究证据表明热尘埃遮蔽星系可能是尘埃严重遮蔽的活动星系核。根据主流的星系形成与演化模型预言,热尘埃遮蔽星系可能处于亚毫米星系和光学亮类星体之间的过渡阶段,是研究大质量星系与中心超大质量黑洞协同演化的绝佳对象。本项目拟利用我们成功申请到的ALMA,VLT,JCMT和P200等大型望远镜的观测时间,对热尘埃遮蔽星系的物理组分性质和所处环境开展多波段观测研究:(1)限制不同尘埃成分的贡献,估计星系质量,通过CO谱线观测研究分子气体性质;(2)利用窄带、近红外和亚毫米宽场测光,研究其周围的星系环境。本项目拟将热尘埃遮蔽星系的物理特性与亚毫米星系和类星体进行比较,以检验其所处演化阶段是否与模型预言一致。本项目的多波段观测研究,将为建立高红移大质量星系形成和演化的完整图像提供观测制约。
热尘埃遮蔽星系是一类高红移红外极亮星系,可能处于亚毫米星系和光学亮类星体之间的过渡阶段,是研究大质量星系与中心超大质量黑洞协同演化的关键一环。本项目利用ALMA,VLT,JCMT和P200等大型望远镜,对热尘埃遮蔽星系的物理组分性质和所处环境开展了多波段观测研究。我们的研究证实了该类星系确实处于大质量星系演化的关键过渡阶段---尘埃遮蔽类星体阶段,一般位于高密度环境中,具有大量气体成分、极高的恒星形成率和黑洞吸积率,处于星系和黑洞快速生长的阶段。通过本项目的研究,我们一共发表了14篇相关SCI论文,培养了5名研究生,促进了广泛的国内外学术合作。另外在本项目的基础上,我们申请获得了多项国家级科研项目支持。
