Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. The research method of mathematics starts from a few self-evident axioms and uses logical deduction to derive new conclusions; these new conclusions are called theorems. It can be seen that mathematics is different from other sciences. It is a unique cultural existence and a basic and important part of human culture. Due to the basic and important characteristics of mathematics culture, the spread of mathematics culture also has a basic and important significance for popular science education. In the past half century, the needs of social development have become one of the main reasons for the rapid progress of mathematics. Aviation path optimization has accelerated the development of operations research; the rise of the insurance industry has increased the demand for actuarial science; the rise of pharmaceutical companies has led to the development of biostatistics; the growth of financial markets has promoted the development of financial mathematics. The development of modern mathematics has brought mathematics from the "track and field" era to the "big ball" era and has become an important part of national strength. This project will keep pace with the times, inviting famous mathematicians to serve as editors and editorial board members to edit and publish the "Mathematics Tianyuan Fund Popular Science Series" to discuss the popularization of mathematics in the new era and promote the spread of mathematics culture.
数学是研究数量、结构、空间、变化的学问。数学的研究方法是从少许自明的公理出发,用逻辑演绎的方法,推导出新的结论;这些新的结论被称为定理。由此看出,数学有别于其他科学,是一种独特的文化存在,是人类文化基本且重要的组成部分。由于数学文化的这种基本且重要的特性,数学文化的传播对于科普育人也同样有着基本且重要的意义。在过去的半个世纪中,社会发展的需求成为数学突飞猛进的主要原因之一。航空路径优化加速了运筹学的发展;保险业的兴起加大了精算的需求;制药公司的崛起带动了生物统计的发展;金融市场的壮大促进了金融数学的发展。现代数学的发展使得数学从“田径”时代进入到“大球”时代,成为国家实力的重要组成部分。本项目将与时俱进,邀请著名数学家担任主编与编委,编辑出版《数学天元基金科普丛书》,探讨新时代下的数学科普,促进数学文化的传播普及。
一个多世纪以前,数学还处于证明定理、攻克猜想的“田径”时代。然而现代数学的飞速发展,包括计算数学、金融数学、数据科学、系统科学、人工智能等一系列新兴学科的问世,使得数学进入到“大球”时代,成为国家实力的重要组成部分。可以说,数学在过去的半个世纪里发生了翻天覆地的变化,而公众对数学的认识可能还停留在早年的“田径”时代。为了使读者全面了解现代数学的进展,接触到更多与时俱进的数学分支,本项目邀请著名数学家担任主编与编委,与科学出版社合作出版“天元数学文化丛书”。丛书以大众语言阐述数学的真善美,目前已经出版了《数苑趣谈》《中国计算数学的初创》,并即将出版《数记》《浩瀚苍穹里的灿烂群星》等一系列著作。本项目致力于一手的数学文化传播,对培养公众的数学思维、扩展对数学的认识,加快我国数学从“田径”时代进入“大球”时代具有十分积极的意义。
