With the fast development of infrastructure in our country, the need of polymer modified asphalt (PMA) with high performance increase quickly. The high performance, low cost PMAs were prepared by reactive blending in this work. Effect of rubbers, crosslinking agent, and processing on the properties and morphologies of the PMA were studied. The PMAs which had high performance and stability were achieved by reactive blending. The crosslinking characteristics of PMA were characterized by advanced rheology with extension system (ARES). The crosslinking of rubber and reaction between rubber and asphalt was proved. The reaction mechanism and stabilization mechanism was studied and put forward. The compatibility between polymer and asphalt was solved by reactive blending. The reactive PMA theory was established; and the pavements with high performance , stability , low price was produced in practice.
