Plate dynamics of Caledonian event in South China remain considerable debated. The Caledonian orogeny propagating from south to north indicate that the event was earliest triggered in the southern part of South China. The Hainan Island, locating on the southern end of South China, consists of the Qiongzhong terrane to the north and the Sanya terrane to the south, with the intervening early Paleozoic ocean marking the margin of South China Block and unknown continent. This project will contrast provenance of early Paleozoic clasolite in the Qiongzhong and Sanya terranes and shed highlight on the following scientific problems: (1) what was tectonic setting of the Qiongzhong terrane? active continental margin or synorogenic basin? (2) Which continent did the Sanya terrane belong to? Laurentia or Gondwana? What was its tectonic setting? (3) Whether the Qiongzhong and Sanyan terranes ever were assembled or not during the early Paleozoic period? (4) How about was plate dynamics of the South China Caledonian event
华南大规模、多期次、面状造山的加里东运动的驱动机制是一个一直没有很好解决的科学问题。造山作用由南向北的总体变新指示了华南南部是最早响应造山作用的地区。海南岛由北部琼中地块和南部三亚地块组成,两地块之间存在早古生代洋盆信息,标定了早古生代华南板块的南缘与未知板块之间的界线。本项目通过对海南岛南北早古生代沉积岩的沉积学特征、物源及其时空配置的对比,探讨以下科学问题:(1)琼中地块早古生代的构造背景?活动大陆边缘还是同造山盆地?(2)三亚地块早古生代的构造背景及其板块归属?劳伦还是冈瓦纳?(3)琼中地块与三亚地块在早古生代是否曾经拼合?何时拼合?(4)在上述问题的基础上,探讨华南加里东运动的驱动机制问题。
