Based on the great age model and the high resolution, Sedimentary pollen records can provide crucial information on vegetation, human impact and climate change as well as on past changes of ocean circulation in the west Pacific Ocean. In order to better understand and interpret marine fossil pollen records, studies on modern pollen and spore transportation and deposition in the ocean are needed. In this study, sediment trap and airborne are used as the modern survey methods. Pollen analysis and geochemistry analysis on the two12-year sediment trap records, four cruises atmospheric aerosols on board of a research ship during four cruises during four seasons, the surface samples and two cores retrieved from the northern South China Sea. Then combining the field observation data, we will discuss the modern pollen transportation and deposition progress in the ocean, from the multiply spatial and temporal distribution of the pollen and other sediments, and the relationship among the vegetation source, Asian Monsoon, the ocean current and the pollen spread pattern. It will help us to further reveal the significance of marine pollen records as the climate and environmental indicators, providing the new evidence for the study of transport and accumulation processes of the terrigenous material, and quantitative and semi quantitative indication of the proxies from the marine pollen record, which would improve the accuracy of the climate simulation and the environment forecasting.
海洋孢粉记录,凭借其良好的年代框架、高分辨率沉积等优势,为西太平洋地区的植被演化、人类活动、气候变化和海洋环境演变等提供关键性的基础。而海洋孢粉的输运和堆积过程研究可以提高海洋孢粉数据解释的准确性。本项目利用沉积物捕获器和气溶胶等现代过程观测手段,对南海北部两个沉积物捕获器(两个水深层位,两年以上样品)、四个季节航次的气溶胶样品、南海北部海洋表层沉积和柱状样沉积,以孢粉分析和地球化学测试为主要研究方法,结合现场观测资料,开展现代海洋孢粉传播过程分析,从不同时间尺度、不同空间分布等方面对孢粉输运和堆积过程的控制因素等进行综合研究,探讨植被源区、季风、海洋环境(以海流变化为主)等和孢粉传播之间的关系,得到比较可靠的古植被、古气候、古环境重建的指标信息,为陆源物质输运和堆积的过程研究和海洋孢粉的定量半定量化指示意义提供新的证据,进一步提高气候模拟、环境预测的正确性。
