Polyethylene (PE) is one of the most widely used polyolefins due to its balanced mechanical properties, chemical resistance and ease of processing. However, its poor thermal stability and inherent flammability have limited its applications in some fields where excellent flame retardancy is required. The highly reactive free radicals cause the thermal degradation and combustion of PE. In this project, we will introduce rare earth trifluoromethanesulfonate (RE(OTf)3) to PE to reveal the flame retardant mechanism. The free-radical capturing ability of RE(OTf)3, dynamic rheological behavior, thermal behavior, combustion behavior of PE and chemicals released during thermal degradation will be studied. The relationships among the radical scavenging ability of RE(OTf)3, the thermal stability of PE and the flame retardancy of PE will also be established. On the one hand, the results of project will provide theoretical guidance for promoting the rare earth flame retardant direction from laboratory to practical engineering applications, which can play a unique advantage in rare earth reserves of our country; on the other hand, the results can find out the potential of RE(OTf)3 as the thermal stabilizer and flame retardant, and also provide technical support for the development of efficient and eco-friendly flame retardant PE.
聚乙烯(PE)是一种应用极广的高分子材料,但是热稳定性差、极易燃和发热量大等缺点限制了其在对阻燃级别要求高的领域中的应用,其中高活性的自由基是引起PE降解和燃烧的根本原因。本项目将具有自由基捕获能力的三氟甲烷磺酸稀土盐(RE(OTf)3)引入至PE中,通过对RE(OTf)3自由基能力的测试,结合动态流变行为、热降解行为、燃烧行为和热降解过程中化学成分跟踪,进而构筑“RE(OTf)3自由基捕获能力-PE热氧稳定性-PE阻燃性能”之间的关系,揭示RE(OTf)3的阻燃机理。这一方面可以发挥我国在稀土储量特有的优势,为稀土阻燃方向从实验室推向实际工程应用提供理论指导;另一方面可以摸清RE(OTf)3作为热稳定剂抑或阻燃剂的潜力,为新型高效环保阻燃PE体系的开发提供技术支持。
本项目完成了项目任务书预定的研究目标。一方面充实和完善了稀土化合物阻燃的作用机理,发挥我国在稀土储量特有的优势;另一方面为新型高效环保阻燃聚合物体系的开发提供技术支持,为稀土阻燃方向从实验室推向实际工程应用提供理论指导。项目实施期间,发表SCI收录论文11篇,在国内学术会议作口头报告1次、国际学术会议上墙报展示1次,申请发明专利7项(其中授权1项)。
