Sanicula L. comprises about 40 species and is classified in Apiaceae subfamily Saniculoideae tribe Saniculeae. Its fruits are distinctive and generally possess features, such as hooked prickles, that promote their dispersability. Sanicula has a typical East Asian-North American discontinuous distribution. There are two main centers of diversity, one in China (17 species, 11 endemic species) and one in North America (22 species, 13 endemic species). The taxonomy of the genus is very complicated, with both subgeneric and interspecific delimitations controversial. Furthermore, based on previous phylogenetic analyses of molecular data, Sanicula is not monophyletic and its place of origin is unclear. To date, very few Chinese endemic species of Sanicula have been included in molecular phylogenetic studies. Based on previous research, the overall goal of this project is to produce a comprehensive estimate of phylogenetic relationships within Sanicula using molecular, anatomical and morphological data, with emphasis on those disjunct species. We will look for associations between morphology/anatomy and phylogenetic relationships inferred from molecular characters. We will infer the place of origin of the genus and ascertain subsequent migratory/dispersal patterns. The results obtained will not only provide useful information on the molecular phylogeny and classification of Sanicula, but will also add to our knowledge of the Arcto-Tertiary Biogeographic hypothesis.
变豆菜属(40种)隶属于伞形科、变豆菜亚科(变豆菜族),果实常具钩刺,利于扩散,是典型的东亚-北美间断分布属。中国(17种,11个特有种)和美国(22种,13个特有种)是两个分布中心。该属分类非常困难,其属下系统和种间界限存在争议。近年分子系统发育结果表明该属并非单系,属的起源地也存在争议,且严重缺少对中国特有种的研究。本项目在已有的研究基础上,将形态、解剖特征与分子系统发育相结合,建立变豆菜属的系统发育框架:重点揭示间断分布种的关系;探讨该属形态和解剖特征与系统进化的关系;推测属的起源地、迁移和扩散模式。研究结果不仅能为变豆菜属的系统发育和分类提供重要的依据,而且可以为北极-第三纪生物地理假说提供新的证据。
