The effect of interface on the structural characteristics and physical properties in nanoscale metallic multilayers will be studied by means of the structural analyses on an atomic scale and the relative property measurements. In order to simplify the influencing factors, immiscible metals Al and Pb are preferred and two kinds of the nanoscale Al-Pb multilayer samples are required, in which the interfaces between the metallic components have a simecoherent interface structure and an incoherent interface structure, respectively. The preparing method as well as the forming mechanism of the two typical interface structures will be investigated. By means of the structure observation and the element analysis on the atomic scale, the interface structures of the nanoscale Al-Pb multilayers are characterized. Meanwhile, the morphological stability and the melting point of the ultrathin Pb films are investigated. Based on the experimental results, the effect of interface on the structural characteristics and physical properties in nanoscale metallic multilayers will be given. It is helpful for people to understand the relationship between the interface structures and the physical properties in the metallic materials.
