We have developed a matrix-addressed ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator(FLCSLM) with 128×128 pixels, the dimension of each pixel is 0.275mm×0.275mm, the gapis 20μm, its resolution is 3.4lines/mm. The devices show almost perfect memory characteristic.Its contrast ratio exceed 65﹕1 and the frame rate is 26 Hz. The driver of FLCSLM also.has been manufactured. It enables the FLCSLM to realize dynamic amplitude modulationunder the control of computer or separated from computer.Because FLC material is very expensive and short of broad temperature FLC material,.we regulated the investigation plan. In these two years(2001-2002), we have.developed LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) phase spatial light modulator with 1024×768 pixels, its resolution is 55 lines/mm, the refresh rate is 60 Hz. Under thecontrol of computer, the phase modulation (0-2π) can berealized in visible range.The amplitude variation accompanied by phase modulation is less than 10%. A LCOS.amplitude spatial light modulator also has been developed preliminary, its contrast is 80:1, and other parameters such as pixels, resolution and refresh rate are equal to the parameters of LCOS phase SLM.
