Theoretical physics in Lanzhou University has trained a lot of talents for our country. However, the loss of talents induced by the backwardness in western China has made the development of theoretical physics in Lanzhou University facing many unprecedented difficulties in recent years. Under the support of the Theoretical Physics Special Funding of National Natural Science Foundation in the past four years and the support of our university and college, the construction of our theoretical direction has been paying off. Now, we have constructed an active research team including 22 young members performing research work on particle physics, topological field theory and gravity, condensed matter physics, quantum optics and quantum information, statistical physics and complex systems, and so forth. In 2014, we will mainly support the direction of quantum optics and quantum information theories based on the established academic communication platform of theoretical physics, and simultaneously, take into account the development of other directions. We plan to convene an academic conference on quantum optics and its physical application on the scale of about 40 people in the midyear, and some small-scale symposiums in other areas. We also plan to invite 12 renowned scholars to visit Lanzhou University and organize one mini-summer school, and support 6 young members to visit other universities or institutes. Under these specific measures, we expect that we can achieve the purposes on three aspects: First, continue to improve the research level of our team members in theoretical physics of Lanzhou University; Second, expand and deepen the communication with the experts in other universities and institutes; and last, drive the development of the theoretical physics in western China.
兰州大学理论物理专业为国家培养了大批理论物理专业人才,但西部落后的大环境所致的人才流失曾使该专业面临前所未有的困难。最近四年在国家自然科学基金委“理论物理专款”的特别资助与学校学院的大力支持下,理论物理专业已初步形成一支较有活力的科研团队,已有青年教师22人,在粒子物理、拓扑场论与引力理论、凝聚态理论、量子光学和量子信息、统计物理和复杂系统等方向开展工作。2014年我们将在现有的理论物理交流平台基础上重点建设量子光学与量子信息方向,并兼顾其它方向的发展。在年中召开单量子态调控方面规模40人左右的学术会议以及其它方向的小规模专题研讨会。计划邀请12人次国内外知名学者来兰讲学并组织一次微型暑期学校,资助6人次青年教师外出访问。我们希望通过这些活动的实施达到三方面的目的:一是继续提高兰州大学理论专业教师的科研水平,二是进一步扩大深化与国内专家的交流,三是带动西部地区理论物理的发展。
通过2014年度的专项基金支持,我们圆满的完成了该年度的兰州大学量子光学与量子信息方向理论物理学术交流与人才培育平台建设目标。举办了一次暑期学校和五次中小型学术会议,独立邀请了18名高水平学者来兰大做学术讲座或进行短期合作,使得兰大理论物理专业师生与国内外同行有了更广泛而深入的交流。通过这些交流讨论,部分研究组已经开始在相关问题的研究上一起合作,有的研究组已经与国内外合作者已经进行了深入的合作,从而提高了青年教师的研究实力和研究生的科研水平,以及兰州大学理论物理的认知度。这些学术活动有效的巩固了兰大理论物理交流平台近几年来的建设,提升了理论物理整个研究团队的实力,同时也对西部地区理论物理的发展起到了辐射带动作用,对提高我国西部地区理论物理的研究水平具有重要的意义。
