Research on ozone vertical profiles characteristics over several sites of ChinaOver 300 ozone sound data over Hong Kong, Xining, Lasa and Beijing from 1993 have been analyzed and used in research on the relationships among the ozone vertical profiles characteristics, areas, seasons and weather systems. Two field measurement campaigns were carried out for extensive and simultaneity ozone sounds, over Kunming, Hong Kong and Linan from March to April of 2001 and over Urumchi, Beijing and Xining during January of 2002 respectively. Over 100 data for vertical ozone profiles were obtained. The reasons of low tropospheric ozone peaks were studied using meteorological data and satellite data. We concluded that the long range transportation of pollutants from biomass burning of southeast Asia and south Asia were responsible for these ozone peaks. Transport of ozone from stratosphere to troposphere due to tropopause folding around upper air jet regions was also studied and ozone fluxes were calculated using these ozone sound data. Air quality model is applied to simulate the ozone profiles during observational period and quantify the contribution of biomass burning.
