We cloned and sequenced the uncoupling protein gene 2 and 3 (UCP2 and UCP3) in pigs, and obtained the full length of cDNA and genomic gene sequences. The nucleotide polymorphisms related with genetic characteristics were detected in different breeds by gene canning, these experimental results provided valuable data for porcine breeds evaluation and utilization. The UCP2 and UCP3 expressed higher in introduced pigs compared with some local breeds Using RT-PCR and protein blotting technique, suggested that the UCP gene could be used as candidate genes for feed energy conversion and body weight, and this research detailed the realization about genetic mechanisms of energy balance and related traits. The research group has appeared three experimental papers, and two of them collected by SCI. Journals, and communicated twice in different academic meetings. A new DNA sequence was declared in Genbank and a new patent was engaged to apply. The program brought up two graduate students and acquired genomic gene BAC clones, All these research progress enhanced experimental conditions and research basic for gene function.
