Affected by sedimentary environments and level changes, coal seams and coal-measures mudstone formed in different systems tracts have deferent types of organic, compositions, characters and hydrocarbon potential, therefore they have direct influence on the generation of hydrocarbon..According to research, for the C-P coal seam and coal-measures mudstone in china, coal and coal-measures mudstone formed in the Transgression systems tracts (represented by the coal seams and coal-measures mudstone, of the Taiyuan formation) have a better potential for generating hydrocarbon. This is because coals formed in this environment contain more fluorescent vitrinites content, the fluorescent vitrinites were formed in more reduced environments. Coal measures mud-stone contain more mineral pitch matrix A (formed mainly by low grade aquatic living beings). .Generally, coal seams and coal-measures mudstone (represented by the Shanxi formation coal and coal-measures mudstone) formed in high stand systems tracts have relatively poor hydrocarbon potential. This is due to the shallow and low reducibility water in swamp. In this systems tracts, the fluorescent vitrinite content in mudstone is relatively low and mineral pitch matrix is mainly Type "B "(which is mainly composed of plant clastics), but coal seams and coal-measures mudstone, formed in sedimentary environments that is dominated by rheophilous bog, usually contain abundant liptinites and liptidetrinites, which have strengen types of organic and hydrocarbon potential of the coal seams and coal-measures mudstone , sometimes even better than those in transgressive systems tracts. .On the whole, organic types and hydrocarbon potential of coal seams and coal-measures mudstone in low stand systems tracts are always poor..
