To study the relationship of stress-growth in lower esophagus with achalasia. Methods By gastroscope benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium chloride(BAC) or saline were injected circumferentially into the LES of 20 healthy cats, which were divided into 4 groups(4,6,8weeks and control, n=5). Manometries were performed respectively before and after injection. We measured the compliance of the lower 1/3 esophagus in vitro with a computerized pressure-volume survey system. Then the lower 1/3 esophagus were cut into rings. After the depth of dissepiments , inner- radius and extra-radius were scanned the rings were cut open to scan the opening angles which demonstrate the zero-stress state. Then we calculated the residual stress of the lower 1/3 esophagus. Results Injection BAC can make the LESP significantly higher than those of the control[(31.2±5.11)mmHg、(30.6±3.61)mmHg、(32.2±3.76)mmHg vs (17.0±3.10)mmHg、(17.8±2.79)mmHg、(17.8±1.33)mmHg, p﹤0.05]. The lower esophagus of BAC-treated animals showed lower compliance and residual stress to the control. But the difference was decreased followed by the progress of the disease. Conclusion This study supported that the compliance of the lower esophagus in achalasia was decreased and the abnormalities of mechanics property were significant.
