The project is to establish a digital mineral museum based on WWW via internet. During the long history periods, The Earth Sciences Dapartment of Nanjing University has collected abundant invaluable specimens. Capturing the static and motion pictures of these specimens both in 2D and 3D styles, Discripting about them with medatada are the main task of this project. The history of mineralogy, mineral classification , the basic concepts of minerals and scientific definition of mineralogy, as well as geologic process in which minerals,are formulated and other related thematics are also involved. By combining the collection of social museum with the multimedia technology and websites, the digital mineral museum establishes a multi-dimensional knowledge framework including the collection, exchange, showing and sharing specimens as well as knowledge relating to them..At the same time, some key technologies about the digital museum have also been done during the project. The digital mineral museum is based on the 3 tier client/service pattern which is composed of multimedia DBMS, WWW service and multi-client programs. The pattern guarantese the system robust and continuous growth.. The key technologies in this project are as follows:.1).Making many kind of multimedia resources (such as text, graph, audio et al.) combine and share completely;.2).Providing digital watermark technology to protect knowledge patent;.3).Providing encryption techniques to guarantee that the digital resources could promulgate in the network safely;.4).In order to make users find needed information conveniently, we integrate many kinds of inquiring and searching service, including attribution searching, whole-text searching and so on..
本项目在南京大学地球科学系丰富的馆藏标本、齐全的学科人才、先进的网络多媒体信息技术基础上,依托综合性大学的学科优势和科研力量,结合社会实物博物馆的馆藏,借助多媒体和网络技术,通过对矿物标本的数字化采集过程,将矿物的科学定义、形成矿物的地质作用、矿物的分类和陈列等知识体系有机地串接起来,形成立体的知识网络,集标本收藏、保存、研究、展出、共享与知识传播为一体,最终建成一个基于网络的数字矿物博物馆.同时,本项目建设期间还针对数字博物馆建设中的一些关键技术进行了探索性研究和应用形成了以多媒体数据管理系统与WWW服务器及多个客户程序构成三角形的客户/服务器模型,为系统的不断增长提供了保证。其中涉及的核心技术包括:.u.实现各种多媒体资源(例如文本、图象、音频等)完全的集成与共享; .u.提供数字水印技术等以保护知识产权;.u.提供加密技术以保证数字化资源在网络上的安全发布; .u.集成多种查询与检索服务,包括属性查询、全文检索查询等,方便用户快速找到所需的内容。.
