We obtained a new identification of the naturally outcropping cryptomelane (KxMn8-xO16)with grain size of 20-100 nm from supergene oxide manganese ore in Xiangtan manganese deposit. There was a larger tunnel in the cryptomelane with aperture of 0.46 nm. The finding is not only changeable the recognition of mineral's constituents of the oxide ore from the deposit which had ever insisted for almost one century, but also important for prospecting manganese resources of octahedral molecular sieve (OMS-2) of natural cryptomelane in South China. The sorptions of Hg(Ⅱ)、Cd(Ⅱ)、Pb(Ⅱ)、Zn(Ⅱ) from aqueous solution by the cryptomelane as well as sorptions of Hg(Ⅱ)、Cd(Ⅱ)、Cr(Ⅵ) from aqueous solution by magnetite and hematite respectively were studied under variant conditions. The sorption Pb(Ⅱ) on the cryptomelane is rather stable. The sorptions of Cd(Ⅱ) and Cr(Ⅵ) on magnetite and hematite respectively are very stable too. While the sorption of Hg(Ⅱ) on the cryptomelane, magnetite and hematite is unstable. The degrations of phenol, anilin and waste water of printing and dyeing by the cryptomelane were much effective. Tentative conclusion was pointed out that pollutant treatment by natural minerals is based on the law of nature and reflects natural self-purification function in the inorganic world, similar to that of the organic world - biological treatment.
