Abstract Lack of regeneration from seedlings is a common phenomenon which occurs in deciduous oak forests in the world, therefore, research work on regeneration of oak forests is one of the hotspot in the world ecological studies. But the scope of studies were usually limited to the relationships between acorn and predators. This program, through investigating all the course of the oak seedling recruitment and establishment including the oak seed rain, the characteristics of rooting, living over winter, sprouting caudices, the development of seedling taproot before the seedling coming out of soil and its benefiting the seedling, the strategy of seedling biomass allocation, the structure of the oak population, besides, sowing seeds and other experiments in different habitats were also being conducted in Dongling Mountain. As the results, we found that the early germinated and fast growing taproot would be a strategy for cotyledon loss afterwards, the biomass allocation of the oak seedlings was a so-called 'sit and wait' strategy, and the activities of small forest carnivores were helpful to the oak forest regeneration in situ. All of those results have not been reported in the international ecological research field yet, so the research scope were more broadened. What we found from conducting this program could further explain in some extent the mechanism of oak forest regeneration and the results would benefit the management of Liaodong oak forest as well as other deciduous oak forests.

缺乏实生苗更新是栎林普遍存在的问题。通过对萌根、越冬、萌芽等辽东栎种子发芽全过程进行系统地研究,从子叶丢失对辽东栎幼苗早期存活和生长的影响、发芽前根系的形成和发展对幼苗生长和抗逆性的影响、辽东栎种群结构等方面着手,通过对照播种栽培实验的结果,结合环境因子进行分析,以探讨辽东栎种子的萌发特性,阐明辽东栎林的天然更新机制。
