Identification of a species of Theileria isolated from cattle in central parts of Gansu province. Morphological comparison with T.annulata、T.sergenti、T.parva、T.mutans、T.tautotragi、T.velifera、T.buffeli suggested that the species of Theileria not only have the shape shared by Theileria, but also some strange shapes beyond word, especially when parasitemia was high, the rate of the strange shapes could be as high as 20%. The budding multiplication was observed. The parasites could proliferate in splenectomized cattle and parasitemia were as high as 52.69%,and the infected cattle showed serious anemia, high temperature listless, lack of the appetite, some of the cattle died of theileriosis. Damages in some organs were observed in postmortem examination. Using Theileria specific primer, the genomic DNA of the new Theileria could be amplified, which suggested that the parasite is Theileria. The 18s small subunit ribosomal RNA gene of the parasites was sequenced and compared with that of 9 species of Babesia and 7 species of Theileria. The results indicated that the new species of Theileria was different from these valid Babesia and Theileria. The parasite was close to T.buffeli and T.sergenti, and the difference with T.mutans, T.tautotragi, T.annulata, T.velifera and T.parva was obvious. As for the results mentioned above, the parasites was considered to be a new species of Theileria. The parasites were named Theileria sinensis due to it was firstly isolated in China..The experiments demonstrated that the vectors of Theileria sinensis were H.qinhaiensis and H.japonica. Inoculation experiments, morphological observations, transmission experiments, and sequencing of 18S rRNA sequences were conducted with a species of T.sp isolated from yaks on Weiyuan ranch of Gansu province. The results showed that T.sp and T.sinensis belong to the same species.
