Behavior of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and PAHs in soil-plant system was investigated in Tianjin area. Procedures for determing the chemicals in soil and plant samples based on accecelarate solvend extraction (ASE) method were developed. The influence of natural occorring water soluble (WSOC) and insoluble organic (WIOC) carbon on the mobility and bioavailability of OCPs and PAHs was studied. A model for predicting toxicity of organic chemicals was estiblished. Ecological toxicity of PAHs in wastewater irrigated agricltral area of Tianjin was evaluated. It was found that ASE procedure is efficient for such study. WSOC and WIOC affect the bioavailability of OCPs and PAHs in the opposite directions. Benzo(a)pyrene is the most toxic PAHs in the study area in term of ecological risk.
